Best Doorway Baby Jumpers for Small Spaces

Best Doorway Baby Jumpers for Small Spaces

For busy parents of growing babies, a baby jumper is a welcome gift.  You’ll find a  Jumperoo on many new parent’s gift wishlist – but what if you have a small home, and just don’t have the space for a free-standing jumper?  Hang it!

Door-hanging jumpers have been around for a couple generations now, but these are not the same old “johnny-jump-ups” that we grew up with. Innovative design and new safety features make the best of the doorway-mounted jumpers a great alternative to the floor-stand style, especially if your floor space is limited.

My Top 3 Picks for Space-Saving Doorway Baby Jumpers

The three top-rated doorway jumpers shown here do differ in the design details and range slightly in price, but all get  good reviews from parents. Loops for hanging toys add to the fun and amusement, while key safety features are built right in to the design — see how the handy play/snack tray serves as a bumper, and the hanging mechanisms keep straps away from Baby while limiting the range of swing?

Number One of the doorway models for me is the Graco Jump N Jive, which is slightly different in that it comes not only with soft toys, which you can easily remove for cleaning, but also an “interactive musical mat” for baby to explore cause-and-effect as his foot steps on the mat below will produce musical sounds.  My little nephew loved his Jump N Jive, but he did have to wait until he was just a little bit older before he made real use of the musical mat,  and got the idea that he could make different sounds by moving his feet.

Graco’s premium doorway jumper is a little more expensive than the very affordable Bumper Jumper (also by Graco) and the SmartSteps Jump and Go (from Evenflo) – my second and third choices, shown below – but even so it comes in well below the cost  of a floor-standing  jumperoo or activity center.

Graco’s popular low-cost Bumper Jumper in gender-neutral soft green and brown tones has two soft toys you can take off, all-round bumpers to protect your woodwork, and a removable seat cushion that is machine washable.

Not much in the way of fancy features, to be sure, but it’s a great bargain-priced jumper that you can hang almost anywhere without clashing with the rest of your decor. Soothing natural tones can be a visually restful change, when your once-tidy home is suddenly decorated all in baby things!

Evenflo’s top doorway jumper comes in two different color schemes – ABC123, in a bright green/blue alphabet and numbers theme, and Pink Tea, the pretty pink/purple theme shown here.

Very similar to the Bumper Jumper but without the extra protective edge, it does includes a good wide play tray, one hanging toy (a sort of teething ring) and – best of all – an interactive musical “learning pod” toy with lights, music, and activities to engage your little one’s attention when she’s got all the fun to be had out of bouncing and dancing.

Ready for cuteness?

Here’s a peek at  the  SmartSteps in action – so much fun that  Baby Lola can’t stop bouncing even when she’s fallen asleep!

There you have it, my top three picks!

As you can see, the best hanging baby jumpers are simple in design but oh-so-practical.  Colorful interactive toys keep your baby amused and learning to grasp and manipulate objects, while the bouncing and jumping helps to develop large motor skills and gives a fun, safe way for active babies to get more exercise while they let Mommy have a little break from hands-on childcare so she can get a meal ready or maybe put her feet up for a few minutes.

Bonus, a hanging doorway jumper is so affordable, compared to the jumperoo-style activity centers, you’ll save money as well as floor space!

  • We used a doorway jumper for our daughter for the exact space saving reason you mentioned. There are so many big items that often come along with having a baby and toddler in the home that make solutions like this invaluable.
